The 5 Word Question That Changed My Life

It’s a simple question, yet the 5 words changed everything.

Why This 5 Word Question Matters More After 50

If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent years listening to the social expectations for women.

Do more. Be more. Look younger. Stay positive.

And let’s not forget: "Don’t let yourself look older."

But what if aging isn’t something we’re supposed to resist or fix?

What if it’s actually the best time to get curious, rewrite the rules, and finally ask...

🧠 The 5 Word Question: “So, What Do I Want?”

That’s it. That’s the question that transformed my life.

It might seem too simple at first.

But after decades of following “shoulds” and ignoring what felt true for me, this five word question cracked something open inside me.

The question moved me out of frustration and overwhelm.

Out of feeling “meh” about my life.

Out of the world of “shoulds”.

And straight into the world of child like excitement about my life and my future.

You know, the pure joy your grandkids express on Christmas morning…that kind of excitement.

Redefining Aging for Grandmothers: A Mindset Shift

When you’re in your 50s or 60s, it’s easy to feel caught between your past and your future.

  • Your body’s changing.

  • Your routines are shifting.

  • The roles you used to play — mom, partner, worker — they’re evolving.

  • And the world doesn’t exactly hand you a permission slip to dream again.

These five words gave me that permission to dream again.

💭 Instead of asking “Is this as good as it gets?”

I started asking, “So, what do I want?”

Figuring out what you want is about honoring your voice again while you redesign your roles of Mom, wife, employee and design your new role of grandmother.

It’s about picking the kind of longevity you want and working for it.

🧠 Your Brain Is Built to keep you safe

That’s why change feels hard; your brain views change as danger. What that means for you is feeling unsure.

When you’re entering into your grandmotherhood years and feeling unsure, your brain will start sending you thoughts like:

  • “It’s too late.”

  • “I should be happy with what I have.”

  • “I’m not good with tech.”

  • “It’s too late to learn new things”

  • I’ll just sit on the sidelines and watch.”

This powerful 5 word question gets your brain curious. What that means for you is you go from your old default mode to your new deliberate living mode.

From Survival Mode to Thriving

Asking myself So, what do I want?” helped me interrupt the anti-aging messages and start discovering the longevity I wanted to experience - both mentally and physically.

I stopped fighting for a number on the scale and started focusing on the physical ability I wanted.

I stopped treating every wrinkle or gray hair like a problem and used that energy to work towards my health goals and life dreams.

And I started building a longevity lifestyle to match the kind of grandmother I want to be - one who is living the legacy I want to leave.
